It's classy, it's festive, and it's CHEAP... which is always a plus. :) <br />
<br />
I was in desperate need of a new wreath. You see, I was using this terribly outdated, cheap-looking wreath that looked very tired. Then I moved. Guess what didn't make it to the new house... the old wreath! Hooray!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzFbRL-eelc8FnbP1x5DRBvUzpQW4wVAtUklLPLpSlNcVrETsGmV8KxV_4B8D3WAhKF7Zz-Xix2HY30elzNYo3BnmKfla63cA2XfNm803OXKONc2ickZ6mSXu8KS32mGeKYHXICW0twZi4/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-finished-close-up1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzFbRL-eelc8FnbP1x5DRBvUzpQW4wVAtUklLPLpSlNcVrETsGmV8KxV_4B8D3WAhKF7Zz-Xix2HY30elzNYo3BnmKfla63cA2XfNm803OXKONc2ickZ6mSXu8KS32mGeKYHXICW0twZi4/s640/diy-pine-cone-wreath-finished-close-up1.jpg" width="560" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But anyone who's moved also knows that moving can get very expensive. Since my wallet is still recovering from this last move, I knew whatever I got would have to be super budget friendly.<br />
<br />
I know I said it was a $10 wreath, but it was actually
cheaper than that for me. Cool right? When I realized I could make this
wreath with stuff I had lying around, I was soooooo excited!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4Toc9VdHYirHpb1fqiIjQTbcgCgdX4DwwtS78qfNSs-0HWevcOAebuCscDAhu0yp25ZcWMKauHaAXxXhyoMjoMjL9rNSVnpe7nhbYpZZSiAPh27KzntNTy9rhDUItoiKYT_slHICNlcjT/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-close-up-section1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4Toc9VdHYirHpb1fqiIjQTbcgCgdX4DwwtS78qfNSs-0HWevcOAebuCscDAhu0yp25ZcWMKauHaAXxXhyoMjoMjL9rNSVnpe7nhbYpZZSiAPh27KzntNTy9rhDUItoiKYT_slHICNlcjT/s640/diy-pine-cone-wreath-close-up-section1.jpg" width="384" /></a></div>
<br />
Want to know how much it actually cost me?<br />
<ul>
<li><b>Wreath Form: $1 </b><br />You can get them from Dollar Tree... or yard sales, or thrift stores, or....</li>
<li><b>Wire and Wire Cutters: Free </b><br />I had wire on hand, but you could also use the floral wire from the dollar store.</li>
<li><b>Pine Cones: Free</b> <br />My sister's tree sheds amazingly large pine cones that were fabulous for this project. She was happy to have someone help clean up her yard too. ;)</li>
<li><b>White Spray Paint: Free</b><br />I just used the left over paint from another project. But the 99 cent white spray paint from Home Depot would more than do the job.<br /><b> </b></li>
<li><b>Wood Slices: Free </b><br />I cut up a branch that fell off a tree in the backyard. However, I've seen round wood slice gift tags in the dollar section at Target. They have chalkboard on one side, but if you turn them over they're blank. Perfect!</li>
<li><b>Red Acrylic Paint and Paint Brush: Free</b> <br />The brush came from my crafting stash. The red paint was actually borrowed, and I hardly used any at all! </li>
<li><b>Hot Glue Gun: Free</b>I already had it, of course.</li>
<li><b>Hot Glue Sticks: $1</b><br />I was out of glue, but the dollar store had my back. ;) </li>
</ul>
<br />
In the end, it actually only cost me a whopping $2. <b>Yes, I said $2 whole dollars.</b> If I had to go buy the supplies today it would cost me right around $10 bucks. So no matter how you look at it, this is a pretty inexpensive wreath. <br />
<br />
Yessss!<br />
<br />
So here's the low down on how to make your own charming pine cone wreath.<br />
<h3>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Supplies and Tools:</b></span></h3>
<ol>
<li><b>14" wire wreath form </b></li>
<li><b>Wire </b></li>
<li><b>About 30 large pine cones </b></li>
<li><b>White spray paint</b></li>
<li><b>12 wood slices (or a branch and a saw)</b>The dollar spot section at Target has a package of wood slice gift tags in a package of 6, which makes a great substitute if you don't want to cut your own slices. Just turn the chalkboard side over and you have a blank piece of wood!<b><br /></b></li>
<li><b>Red acrylic paint </b></li>
<li><b>Paint brush</b></li>
<li><b>Hot glue gun and glue sticks</b></li>
</ol>
<b></b><br />
<h3>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Step 1: Lay It Out</span></b></h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3du87N0i6CmIaEf7dCNY23vjPXMIX3Dx5qyrstw3GWPJKO57NYv7QqgLQp7cxnRFiKwHbhZqFI6t_WF3NH6x8n_OuLEpZ85rL_UC7n0pAGp1R7Aqyx5nRC-Td_SMHM-Gj_WPWv8KhOAo_/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-placing-pine-cones.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3du87N0i6CmIaEf7dCNY23vjPXMIX3Dx5qyrstw3GWPJKO57NYv7QqgLQp7cxnRFiKwHbhZqFI6t_WF3NH6x8n_OuLEpZ85rL_UC7n0pAGp1R7Aqyx5nRC-Td_SMHM-Gj_WPWv8KhOAo_/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-placing-pine-cones.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<b></b><br />
<br />
<br />
I laid out my pine cones<b> </b>around the wreath frame just to make sure I had everything exactly where it looked best. I realized that my bigger pine cones looked better on the inside and my smaller pine cones did better around the outside edge.<br />
<br />
Oh, and make sure your pine cones aren't too brittle. They won't stand up to the wiring (or the test of time for that matter). <br />
<br />
<i>*HERE'S A TIP: If your pine cones are closed up or wet, preheat your oven to 300 degrees Farenheit. Put your pine cones on a foil lined cookie sheet and set them in the oven. Some will dry out and bloom in 30 minutes. Others can take a couple hours, so just keep checking on them until they're done. Here are more <a href="http://anextraordinaryday.net/how-to-make-pine-cones-pop-dry-and-debug-pine-cones/" target="_blank">detailed instructions on how to dry out, bloom and debug your pine cones</a>.</i><br />
<h3>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Step 2: Get Wiring!</b></span></h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQDIng8Pk75xKzV8DcVxLdnaowb72I13X81bzyEx-EcNs3lqyhwmjzUNPao7gHRH6-LmqCbU2e7Ylyi0SMCs5dFQre4PeijO0odZgBeWp-vc5oP3KQUVFPhz6x4w9z49pganY6OhjL7W0b/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-wiring-pine-cones.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQDIng8Pk75xKzV8DcVxLdnaowb72I13X81bzyEx-EcNs3lqyhwmjzUNPao7gHRH6-LmqCbU2e7Ylyi0SMCs5dFQre4PeijO0odZgBeWp-vc5oP3KQUVFPhz6x4w9z49pganY6OhjL7W0b/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-wiring-pine-cones.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Stretch out a long piece of wire and cut it off. You want it long enough to wrap around the bottom portion of a couple pine cones and the wreath form.<br />
<br />
I used 2-3 feet of wire at a time. Any more than that gets all tangled and messy.<br />
<br />
Wrap part of the wire around the pine cone, then tie it onto the wreath form.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGHwukZ5IRWTUxIhUTEyZ7fNOZcD4kzzU2IxZh1p8sZ-dGEQuj9PDO9juApCoHLNfX6TOHUOZuXrml7y46hDdeZE0QpdMMaFcIQRzZyVyBfii7JCGN0ePKRqAYdi6vy5dBRL52YiYaPrti/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-wiring-pine-cones1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGHwukZ5IRWTUxIhUTEyZ7fNOZcD4kzzU2IxZh1p8sZ-dGEQuj9PDO9juApCoHLNfX6TOHUOZuXrml7y46hDdeZE0QpdMMaFcIQRzZyVyBfii7JCGN0ePKRqAYdi6vy5dBRL52YiYaPrti/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-wiring-pine-cones1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Tie another pine cone with the same wire keeping them good and snug, then back to the wreath form. When the wire gets too short to tie again, get another 2-3 feet piece of wire and repeat the process.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAM60a0GCdgBfgnJXRmxlArVoLnRS-XaU2Pv1ib5z5zqp4LcPkguCsLmRQhHxq-MG3ABuwmrHjEsIvIDRIaenOKewcW4KnmbnPPr92A9wqDzP1XM-l4-nMr2jDwJ0Ay_mFaCLZfiurZTIc/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-wiring-pine-cones3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAM60a0GCdgBfgnJXRmxlArVoLnRS-XaU2Pv1ib5z5zqp4LcPkguCsLmRQhHxq-MG3ABuwmrHjEsIvIDRIaenOKewcW4KnmbnPPr92A9wqDzP1XM-l4-nMr2jDwJ0Ay_mFaCLZfiurZTIc/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-wiring-pine-cones3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Don't worry about the straggler wire. And don't worry about wobbly pine cones either. We take care of those in the next step.<br />
<br />
Just make sure the wire is good and snug.<br />
<h3>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Step 3: Glue That Baby</b></span></h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9fSuUDkX4WyLNC0FqESZSF8jX66jOa7_CSk_d5CLI8wYLXjrHTFKn-AnaFsFMm6voUbUYGOYc4FtqDT9VFB6j1ZRboSOnAsls3Kw9vNeKej6lAHYhAv-ZwwutWNlRLrO4ED2J8BpRq9Vy/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-glue-wired-pine-cones.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9fSuUDkX4WyLNC0FqESZSF8jX66jOa7_CSk_d5CLI8wYLXjrHTFKn-AnaFsFMm6voUbUYGOYc4FtqDT9VFB6j1ZRboSOnAsls3Kw9vNeKej6lAHYhAv-ZwwutWNlRLrO4ED2J8BpRq9Vy/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-glue-wired-pine-cones.jpg" width="281" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now that you're done wiring those pine cones in place, it's time to make your final adjustments and glue them exactly where you want them to stay.<br />
<br />
I turned my wreath face down and hot glued any piece touching the wreath form. That keeps them from wobbling. I also glued some of the pine cones to each other where there wasn't enough surface area touching the form. Just be careful not to get blobs in the front. <br />
<br />
Then just twist up or cut any loose wires on the back of your wreath. <br />
<h3>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Step 4: Let It Snow</b></span></h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1NQgRZjKK85U3xnitDQlFqFNlJBeQjD6EQzLgnj3znB671n7Eyvk6o_S4pMb3ihuSegkK7HgGie1F8MVBPQJqZMQJ2KTlu9sCRRHmcXtBhqicPL8bTXFJ266GJdJLPgnQKcwvQb6stlI7/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-spray-paint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1NQgRZjKK85U3xnitDQlFqFNlJBeQjD6EQzLgnj3znB671n7Eyvk6o_S4pMb3ihuSegkK7HgGie1F8MVBPQJqZMQJ2KTlu9sCRRHmcXtBhqicPL8bTXFJ266GJdJLPgnQKcwvQb6stlI7/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-spray-paint.jpg" width="322" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Get your can of white spray paint, shake it like a Polaroid picture, and spray your pine cones until they are as white as you like. I sprayed it from several angles to get them a little more on the white side.<br />
<br />
It makes the pine cones look like they just got a fresh dusting of snow. So pretty! <br />
<h3>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Step 5: Add Your Berries</b></span></h3>
What berries? Oh yeah, you have to make them.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Get Your Wood Slices</b></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdcykBcXz2QGbLyVVzjI2Bpe2_oNf8yQIjTyqI-acdQ74iYjWvXFnlO1qLHpo7peT65UEBuJEjpZhP7uCov_hn7aNGbWat4ZR9HfSq_0sUDWv4_sa3v7-eEEPAk7pQ-mRb31s2Mkc7Yfuz/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-wood-slices1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdcykBcXz2QGbLyVVzjI2Bpe2_oNf8yQIjTyqI-acdQ74iYjWvXFnlO1qLHpo7peT65UEBuJEjpZhP7uCov_hn7aNGbWat4ZR9HfSq_0sUDWv4_sa3v7-eEEPAk7pQ-mRb31s2Mkc7Yfuz/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-wood-slices1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
If you're bought ready-made wood slices or ornaments, go ahead and skip to the painting.<br />
<br />
If you're making your own, this is where you get out your saw and branch. My branch was about 2 inches in diameter.<br />
<br />
Slice off about 12 rounds of wood. It doesn't matter how thick you cut them - mine were between 1/4 an inch to 3/4 an inch deep. You can sand them too if you like, but I prefer the rough look under the paint. :)<br />
<br />
I did pick off the left over bark around the edges though. Most of it was falling off already.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Paint Them Red</b></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ_IvCdWCJimiw31M9dOZERYtsRzaVh1Lhat5xNesPe3PlQ8KcAv4KxRMFIyW0B6n03uyceJgzDkL8ZwPv5TRYU2lvj7ONoR6jifmFSdDAhLeBZEAYe1NVsjtqvCaxX2BVaVFNLY0kMk4T/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-paint-wood-slices1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ_IvCdWCJimiw31M9dOZERYtsRzaVh1Lhat5xNesPe3PlQ8KcAv4KxRMFIyW0B6n03uyceJgzDkL8ZwPv5TRYU2lvj7ONoR6jifmFSdDAhLeBZEAYe1NVsjtqvCaxX2BVaVFNLY0kMk4T/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-paint-wood-slices1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When you're done, paint the middle of your wood slices red. I left a bit of the wood showing around the edges because I liked the look, but do what you like.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Attach 'Em </span></b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtZjQdPCu44ZQ_5AHm1b-oS2M2vRgTBDA42eHYUnsddw_EzqLzNraKsTI2-7iJGD41RW-ADeU9_RKOc3qCdNxDt5tHgiuMDTSx_MpFizjLgVVhS2C6tnnjMrCjOJvZKd40Rpqu2PK2o6tG/s1600/diy-pine-cone-wreath-glue-wood-slice-berries1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtZjQdPCu44ZQ_5AHm1b-oS2M2vRgTBDA42eHYUnsddw_EzqLzNraKsTI2-7iJGD41RW-ADeU9_RKOc3qCdNxDt5tHgiuMDTSx_MpFizjLgVVhS2C6tnnjMrCjOJvZKd40Rpqu2PK2o6tG/s400/diy-pine-cone-wreath-glue-wood-slice-berries1.jpg" width="263" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Just hot glue them wherever you want! I covered a few places where the pine cones broke or where there were huge globs of hot glue.<br />
<h3>
All Done?</h3>
If you wanted to cover the uglies in the back, you could always use some
gray felt, but I was afraid that would make it feel more bulky and unnatural.<br />
<br />
No felt for me, thank you. I love it exactly the way it is. (insert *eeks of glee* here)<br />
<br />

<br />
Can I tell you how much I love it?! I just love it!! So fresh. So festive. So unique. I'm really enjoying the natural look with a bright pop of color. And to top it all off, it hangs easily from the wire wreath form. It's nice that I don't have to whip up some wire contraption to hang it up.<br />
<br />
What do you think? Are you going to try it? I'd love to hear about your own DIY pine cone wreath in the comments below!<br />
<br />
May your porches be merry and bright, and may all your pine cone wreaths be white! Heh, heh. :) Janniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15668003428136639412noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7948225114210342797.post-82684762510118177932015-04-04T12:35:00.001-07:002015-04-04T12:44:12.291-07:00How we fixed our windows<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
See this stuff? It is to lubricate the garage door so it runs more smoothly. I am in no way connected with this product, and I'm not promoting this brand necessarily, but I wanted to share what it did for our windows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUVDgfJAqpeMZ1V8Di8m3S2A9dXSGeYAE6Cd97JOEeoUqmUi_rKoHsT4joDoVUYFfyT5dgtUmONsNWK-OFDcPOR7IVgspd05SkuEtk2eLN3fTMkX-ZIPS2t5L5yP-RIT9yLLuvLsL4uSc/s1600/IMG_3165.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUVDgfJAqpeMZ1V8Di8m3S2A9dXSGeYAE6Cd97JOEeoUqmUi_rKoHsT4joDoVUYFfyT5dgtUmONsNWK-OFDcPOR7IVgspd05SkuEtk2eLN3fTMkX-ZIPS2t5L5yP-RIT9yLLuvLsL4uSc/s1600/IMG_3165.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When we moved into our house a few months ago, we discovered the windows were a mess! They wouldn't open properly and just as important they wouldn't close right. So locking them was really hard and sometimes I couldn't lock them at all. So when the air conditioner or the heater came on, you could hear the whistling of air seeping out the bottom of the window. UGH!!! Not only was that inefficient, it would be costly. I hate the thought of paying to cool or heat the outside! So I looked up everything I could find on the internet on how to fix the windows. I couldn't find the answer to my kind of windows. So this is what we did instead of removing them, or calling in a repair guy, my oldest son got out this garage door lubricant and just sprayed it in the sides where the balances are hidden. And it worked. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just aim it in the slot on the side of the window, slide the window up and down a couple of times and there you have it.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The one window that doesn't slide, needs to have a replacement part. (The balance)</div>

Like I said before I'm not promoting any particular brand, just the garage door lubricant. (NOT WD40) It can gum things up. Hope it works for you, if you need it.</div>

<br />
Have you ever been driving along and you really needed that "thing" that you keep under the seat. So you pull out the old drink cut, flashlight, trash bag, sippy cup, newspaper, shoe, dog biscuit, popcorn kernels.....and on and on. BUT you still did not find that "thing". I have! Way too many times.<br />
<br />
I found a solution.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYfgCUZDNwDoKBSuIFLv-VBwzhc7pTMTDnSAy25rsQ9HdB-OFD37UZQ6jQRG84lGNNYKox99uyzSa1F5yXhn4KP2A4hpwaVbeMsKwwNf59PSXDl_SQi8xgrBs627oKQOno5ffycddLZc75/s1600/car+storage+pencil+boxes.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYfgCUZDNwDoKBSuIFLv-VBwzhc7pTMTDnSAy25rsQ9HdB-OFD37UZQ6jQRG84lGNNYKox99uyzSa1F5yXhn4KP2A4hpwaVbeMsKwwNf59PSXDl_SQi8xgrBs627oKQOno5ffycddLZc75/s1600/car+storage+pencil+boxes.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV4fImmovtIdDRP0FUfxT6LGIPG_1piLdE3dR7rqwZuBKYUblr-YcacP3jxbuklGZNzNFegwN3LCrPOW5fZX60-ZzKeWJf0QbbvcN4r6Y0CiRtN0VRsm291uMZgmqCKiBHq2QffF_7pZlU/s1600/pencil+box.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV4fImmovtIdDRP0FUfxT6LGIPG_1piLdE3dR7rqwZuBKYUblr-YcacP3jxbuklGZNzNFegwN3LCrPOW5fZX60-ZzKeWJf0QbbvcN4r6Y0CiRtN0VRsm291uMZgmqCKiBHq2QffF_7pZlU/s1600/pencil+box.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Plastic pencil boxes. I just used a permanent market to label each box. They slide under the seat beautifully and keep you organized. Everything you need right under your rump. It has been working excellently. <br />
<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

The idea appeared in the form of our version of a family tree.<br />
<br />
The idea is that as a tree grows, the leaves and branches come and go. The roots however, grow deep and wide will keep the tree strong and healthy. So, we need to always nourish the roots.<br />
<br />
On the back of the tree plaque is an inscription that says: "A family tree spreads deep and wide, sweeping our legacy in it's stride."<br />
<br />
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbfopFUr7HH8JtsE1UzsvLL4xNTJAMrOdhxkoiUhnJzZMgiYHOmUdk2Sjbbwuy_DjKO2IW31kU4LAZp6B1LFTLcf08hpqTtIgzyKp47R4Y2KqXP_eR9gpjW_6JXuQeN8TIHypbyluxi_zw/s1600/family+tree+2014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbfopFUr7HH8JtsE1UzsvLL4xNTJAMrOdhxkoiUhnJzZMgiYHOmUdk2Sjbbwuy_DjKO2IW31kU4LAZp6B1LFTLcf08hpqTtIgzyKp47R4Y2KqXP_eR9gpjW_6JXuQeN8TIHypbyluxi_zw/s1600/family+tree+2014.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
With 8 siblings, we can't help but create a spectacular family tree!</div>
<br />
Basically, we took photos of every member of the family at approximately age 2 (or as close to it as possible) and mounted the on wooden tags. Here is where the tree- or roots- comes in. At the top, was mom and dad. From there were each of their children (the siblings) and then the grandkids that belong to each child.<br />
<br />
We hung them from a long wood plank and mounted the wood tags to chain, so there is some movement. As a bonus, we took pictures of just the grandchildren and mounted them to wooden plaques. This was a kind of then and now thing. Black and white was the theme because some of the old photos did not look good in full color, which means oxidized pink.<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I found this beautiful, wooden waterfall dresser... OK, it was pretty <i>ugly</i> actually, but I needed a dresser and it had potential. This one was going for pretty much nothing on Craigslist, so I picked it up and started playing dress-up with it. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGEMDnKLyhRL2qctnFu_gypFnDPIj8z0vc6VmJSK1tYqzjR3xVZXMFnYUZwk0c60w3ZryBdx4B35aOCDf2wgfH_1qkBUsvmNa4bVgMoRhcrGBrCu2KWD5Nw9AejpNOyMx50HbiqY_jUbgS/s1600/waterfall-dresser-painted-refurbished-before-and-after.jpg" height="558" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see from the pictures that the veneer on the top of the dresser was peeling off. It was the same story on the dresser sides at the bottom where there was water damage. But the refurbishing ideas were brewing....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLrDpWt3X0MQWtpLPJikqhaap090cEsspMaVlKoEwyNutV7djaExzshpA8I1BA57M9vFIDXC1hd75LfXENh4gW_RqoIBRBpJ_UGuDq-TxqcJjpTfm9yfi5h4iZf4rC3myweE6A2bPAXc_k/s1600/1+ugly+waterfall+dresser+with+peeling+veneer+and+water+damage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLrDpWt3X0MQWtpLPJikqhaap090cEsspMaVlKoEwyNutV7djaExzshpA8I1BA57M9vFIDXC1hd75LfXENh4gW_RqoIBRBpJ_UGuDq-TxqcJjpTfm9yfi5h4iZf4rC3myweE6A2bPAXc_k/s1600/1+ugly+waterfall+dresser+with+peeling+veneer+and+water+damage.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'd heard that you could peel off the veneer on waterfall dressers and still have a decent top. So I did it - and immediately regretted it. As you can see from the picture below, under the veneer was warped, cracked, and sorry looking to say the least.<br />
<br />
The next idea was to cover it with contact paper. But to do that I would need a smoother surface. So I tried to glue it down, then attempted a sanding and paint job...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmqnugBcwCbNeYFU29zqZV7N_gtDitZz6AlnncBT-NxLpCp5qbwOGgSHCmgftyH5TFuDJy-n3OtJKGu5Fb8MTegQgUUYhlCFseUFYvTPzWJRinbLuMCEKQI1GdS04AfGsFcPg3lSyloFX8/s1600/2+top+of+waterfall+dresser+damaged+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmqnugBcwCbNeYFU29zqZV7N_gtDitZz6AlnncBT-NxLpCp5qbwOGgSHCmgftyH5TFuDJy-n3OtJKGu5Fb8MTegQgUUYhlCFseUFYvTPzWJRinbLuMCEKQI1GdS04AfGsFcPg3lSyloFX8/s1600/2+top+of+waterfall+dresser+damaged+(1).jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
...but to no avail. Leaving me with a severely misshapen surface, this dresser was determined to look ugly.<br />
<br />
Calling on my clever sister Summer, she suggested I try covering the damage with duct tape and THEN with the contact paper.<br />
<br />
I gave it a go.<br />

I was delighted with how well it worked! Seeing that the duct tape was sticking firmly to the painted wood (no peeling up) and it smoothed out the surface, I covered the whole top with a duct-tape veneer.<br />
<br />
Yes! Now it was time to test out the contact paper and see how well it stuck to the duct tape.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB7uJ8Hmm9IXV6gdFv5S08w4O29nYQilO4UKziKJallKAMVR7nqUfI1jpsvDnOCYOO7vjXj2sjsOOi9NxJJVwupHN-w6lfMnNr-59wuuOWI0dPNGL_bkJySibz-teL6KRcj6ypMvAbQwkJ/s1600/2+top+of+waterfall+dresser+damaged+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB7uJ8Hmm9IXV6gdFv5S08w4O29nYQilO4UKziKJallKAMVR7nqUfI1jpsvDnOCYOO7vjXj2sjsOOi9NxJJVwupHN-w6lfMnNr-59wuuOWI0dPNGL_bkJySibz-teL6KRcj6ypMvAbQwkJ/s1600/2+top+of+waterfall+dresser+damaged+(3).jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Beautiful! The contact paper had a bit of a hard time adhering to the back of the dresser (which was NOT painted). Another strip of duct tape just along the edge did the trick (of course, where no one will see).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Time to address the water damage on the bottom of the dresser (thankfully just on the sides). I covered them with contact paper, but seeing that the warped wood showed through the contact paper, I turned again to my sister's brilliant idea... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFfrsTCcv0AlHN5nO55NW6GeJJdG5tmncr-aKQNMLyamZdpeST4x3aNudmGMnpcQxUR9H6XVKFW4_XDJDZs9vnrwI8xcN7FO_peBNi9QhRlhF-UuOLJr8LoisO5OYq5h2crgWffJcwKb5p/s1600/3a+water+damage+cover+up+(8).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFfrsTCcv0AlHN5nO55NW6GeJJdG5tmncr-aKQNMLyamZdpeST4x3aNudmGMnpcQxUR9H6XVKFW4_XDJDZs9vnrwI8xcN7FO_peBNi9QhRlhF-UuOLJr8LoisO5OYq5h2crgWffJcwKb5p/s1600/3a+water+damage+cover+up+(8).jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
...and covered every cracked and peeling piece of wood with duct tape! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I even covered the underside of the dresser because it looked pretty sorry too. I was afraid the contact paper wouldn't stay tucked under if it didn't have a good surface to work with.<br />
<br />
I didn't bother painting the underside. I simply cut off the pieces that were destined to fall off anyway, cleaned the surface of any dust and splinters, and put the tape right on there. And it worked!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghau6EYur7AlevoEscjE8rkpuy2mITmscdBQJ33VsFPdbLJ1wQmzFpPoETLGqTUglRniyyx7ap8z6AJfEKK9VCpPkuKdIqSdOnN4gQHbEARFdxqtgq2EDteO7aFrf4WbokD_t7SO5epHjV/s1600/3d+water+damage+cover+up+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghau6EYur7AlevoEscjE8rkpuy2mITmscdBQJ33VsFPdbLJ1wQmzFpPoETLGqTUglRniyyx7ap8z6AJfEKK9VCpPkuKdIqSdOnN4gQHbEARFdxqtgq2EDteO7aFrf4WbokD_t7SO5epHjV/s1600/3d+water+damage+cover+up+(1).jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
I finished applying the contact paper, using my trusty library card. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJp3b6uTZWwkLaScdWc-HdrF7A15s30m5tJuqud0khS_oyNd5v9W_wVf2fbdS09WajsNndw3EriBY_5M55RFf5n4JTr-V8MDGSwigo6Kt9lljM15J_MwFbt4XMrMVyVVA_EJldKbQzZ5i5/s1600/3e+water+damage+cover+up+(6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJp3b6uTZWwkLaScdWc-HdrF7A15s30m5tJuqud0khS_oyNd5v9W_wVf2fbdS09WajsNndw3EriBY_5M55RFf5n4JTr-V8MDGSwigo6Kt9lljM15J_MwFbt4XMrMVyVVA_EJldKbQzZ5i5/s1600/3e+water+damage+cover+up+(6).jpg" height="320" width="255" /></a></div>
<br />
The edges got a perfect trim with my <i>never-leave-home-without-it</i> pocket knife. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvARTFYS9Xa-v78gxs80UsMZkKTmpSioI-jPL8-XZz3GO_hrkEUYr4tkpf1az_n4EBkuvpuI06tt3OjK5T-32a1H_zOpn6bEMsA8AQykh0MoCpA5ShEB7pTdhXV4ML-csIavvb2v7k34pQ/s1600/3f+water+damage+cover+up+(7).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvARTFYS9Xa-v78gxs80UsMZkKTmpSioI-jPL8-XZz3GO_hrkEUYr4tkpf1az_n4EBkuvpuI06tt3OjK5T-32a1H_zOpn6bEMsA8AQykh0MoCpA5ShEB7pTdhXV4ML-csIavvb2v7k34pQ/s1600/3f+water+damage+cover+up+(7).jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I finished covering the dresser sides with contact paper, I tucked the contact paper up and underneath the dresser sides. And just like I did with the top of the dresser, I tacked on a couple strips of duct tape over the edge of the contact paper to make sure it wasn't going anywhere.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8-LjOZmdBOpwCK8F0eaH4mCc-ba6Ltw6wJQKGIHcvTRJvlL82U2-3ui4oh0TBaLuI0K-8FFy964VDIeq7MhwJB00PI12IkVbESKC_fjOuRbh1hn0xi2PUe7tMNGAHWF7mVXNCJXMc64Lq/s1600/3g+water+damage+cover+up+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8-LjOZmdBOpwCK8F0eaH4mCc-ba6Ltw6wJQKGIHcvTRJvlL82U2-3ui4oh0TBaLuI0K-8FFy964VDIeq7MhwJB00PI12IkVbESKC_fjOuRbh1hn0xi2PUe7tMNGAHWF7mVXNCJXMc64Lq/s1600/3g+water+damage+cover+up+(3).jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
With all the water damage and peeling veneer now taken care of, it was time to make it pretty!<br />
<br />
After taking off the hardware and painting each drawer front white, I taped off a thin square on each drawer and gave it a sharp black edging.<br />
<br />
It looked a little unfinished, so I grabbed a rubber stamp, dabbed it in black paint and PRACTICED ON A PIECE OF PAPER! Always practice first. It keeps you from making really dumb mistakes and having to repaint your stuff.<br />
<br />
The first stamp always blobbed, but the second one looked good and the third looked even better - perhaps a bit distressed. The slight imperfections of the second 2 stamps were perfect!<br />
<br />
So I stamped a beautifully *imperfect* row of flourishes across the bottom of my dresser. Press rubber stamp in the paint, stamp on paper (to remove blobs), stamp on dresser once or twice, and repeat!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgapA24ysG6qvuLg-FipJHyIUeZRKf2Iare29oeX-0fS0YCjUB69EbpCKG_1bRF_a7T2wAO7bJCGMFMwg_3gooJEItp3FS-tdgW9n7-3Nb4Dz7GG6pY1-4VoQ23WsfEjK3GwYW9rlYANvsy/s1600/closeup+detail+of+rubber+stamping+on+furniture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgapA24ysG6qvuLg-FipJHyIUeZRKf2Iare29oeX-0fS0YCjUB69EbpCKG_1bRF_a7T2wAO7bJCGMFMwg_3gooJEItp3FS-tdgW9n7-3Nb4Dz7GG6pY1-4VoQ23WsfEjK3GwYW9rlYANvsy/s1600/closeup+detail+of+rubber+stamping+on+furniture.jpg" height="367" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And that did it! It was finished. I put the handles back on (which already had a great worn finish, almost an industrial look to them) and put it in my room. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglU1b9sp7o-7hXPFC0hVCwlVv0cB3FAapS837zEhOtskHDQUOsx4I9FFt57ANzqR4YYg8uXEigtOMuJ5l77kvlIroSNLmJ0F0BpiWLJcyqTfc2n8lD8C08fjx2SaohyUOgz2cSSO6fN0RE/s1600/finished+dresser+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglU1b9sp7o-7hXPFC0hVCwlVv0cB3FAapS837zEhOtskHDQUOsx4I9FFt57ANzqR4YYg8uXEigtOMuJ5l77kvlIroSNLmJ0F0BpiWLJcyqTfc2n8lD8C08fjx2SaohyUOgz2cSSO6fN0RE/s1600/finished+dresser+(2).JPG" height="400" width="323" /></a></div>
<br />
See? Much better! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwqip0F0zz6zjRRvcvDTgk_O-e3dIbv3Afaq0FBi_yhiAGvgORC9n3m-zyqVypX3a0W01BEzjICjL0S1ujro0erygJqrbT8jeq1bLCUkyIQaUZF7hKnIMA4iXRJYOzIikqS_FWQlSpesN-/s1600/finished+dresser+(5).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwqip0F0zz6zjRRvcvDTgk_O-e3dIbv3Afaq0FBi_yhiAGvgORC9n3m-zyqVypX3a0W01BEzjICjL0S1ujro0erygJqrbT8jeq1bLCUkyIQaUZF7hKnIMA4iXRJYOzIikqS_FWQlSpesN-/s1600/finished+dresser+(5).JPG" height="320" width="258" /></a></div>
<br />
And just so you know, <b>I made this project about a year ago and everything is holding up really well!</b><br />
<br />
Just remember to follow the contact paper instructions... I should have overlapped the contact paper on the top more than just a quarter inch. Half an inch to an inch would have been best since I had plenty of contact paper to work with, and you can't even see the seam in the design across the top. <br />
<br />
But everything else - duct tape, contact paper, paint and all - is working out just swimmingly (and with a couple of young kids that love to use everything as a hammer on my dresser, <i>that </i>is saying something)!<br />
<br />
I hope this helps someone out there refurbish their water-damaged, warped, or peeling furniture piece that needs a little love. I'm tickled with the way my painted waterfall dresser turned out. :)<br />
<br />
Happy DIYing everyone!<br />

It was never easy to find what she needed and she often ended up buying more of items she already had because she couldn't find them in her disorganized pantry. <br />
<br />
Then one day, she had an epiphany. "I'll organize my pantry!" she thought. "But how?" <br />
<br />
She jumped on the internet and came across many lovely organizational ideas, but all required a larger budget than she had available. <br />
<br />
The she had another epiphany. "I can just affix a laminated tag to my wire shelves under where each item should go," she said. <br />
<br />
But then she realized that printing, laminating, and cutting all those tiny tags would be quite time consuming and could be a bit costly. "If only I already had some little plastic tags that I could just insert a label into and attach to my wire shelves," she said.<br />
<br />
And then she had a third epiphany. "I have oodles of extra labels from the hanging file folders that I use in my filing cabinet. Maybe those will work." And they did!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg7QcTvAx0XhLeWcvFa7AhZgH1X6VLIiaOoERhYqVS1KAS1O9Y82FxgT1LKRU66L_F7NZbICRraoXVyhu8Z2QYvI7RxE8WaDapAYNFXIY5NUkxyYPY-CckPAcsklCY2grGGcczSw8cihk/s1600/IMG_2763.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg7QcTvAx0XhLeWcvFa7AhZgH1X6VLIiaOoERhYqVS1KAS1O9Y82FxgT1LKRU66L_F7NZbICRraoXVyhu8Z2QYvI7RxE8WaDapAYNFXIY5NUkxyYPY-CckPAcsklCY2grGGcczSw8cihk/s1600/IMG_2763.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She went to her computer and typed up the names of the foods she had. Then she cut them out and slid them into the plastic holders. But what she did next was the real ingenious thing. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5Ip6r7b49lmgZt-wKRFM8nQq5qawGwqlaBCHu-G24SZFxOjSPZ61Va1Ztle9Ywc-cBo0DjRqBKbDkwhRclxffqaxk_iTCl-6AjGjFM0JDG2k3I96sAjb1Y-E2R5H8i4FqknlpnO_0cho/s1600/IMG_2766.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5Ip6r7b49lmgZt-wKRFM8nQq5qawGwqlaBCHu-G24SZFxOjSPZ61Va1Ztle9Ywc-cBo0DjRqBKbDkwhRclxffqaxk_iTCl-6AjGjFM0JDG2k3I96sAjb1Y-E2R5H8i4FqknlpnO_0cho/s1600/IMG_2766.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
She slid the labels in between the wires on her shelf and they stayed--no tape or ties or anything!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnhwRNpOiKYOWvkwZwPvckXJINxeT-844rld66I0E8YENIFiNRnBm0igGTAb3kj1rmuQhrgPTcKN_a6Wkd7CwqGS40IXYZp5QHsvCdkgURFGMZRpf5S4VfrHwmQ9O5nYoBOU6BaiHvJKU/s1600/IMG_2764.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnhwRNpOiKYOWvkwZwPvckXJINxeT-844rld66I0E8YENIFiNRnBm0igGTAb3kj1rmuQhrgPTcKN_a6Wkd7CwqGS40IXYZp5QHsvCdkgURFGMZRpf5S4VfrHwmQ9O5nYoBOU6BaiHvJKU/s1600/IMG_2764.jpg" height="320" width="232" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now her pantry is neat and tidy. And she can always find what she needs for her recipe and can always see when its time to pick an item up at the grocery store. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And she and her pantry lived happily ever after.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
THE END</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My family loves the DIY Christmas advent chain... but how do you make it look fantastic? My struggle is that it always looks like some scraggly chain that doesn't fit in with my Christmas decor.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So this year, I used cardstock that matches my home for the chain (as opposed to any old left over cardstock), then made a <b>cute little printable</b> to put in a frame (<b>you can get it too... </b>when you scroll to the bottom)! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It hangs on the door from a ribbon on a wreath hanger. Then the kids can reach the loops, and it doesn't look like I just taped it to the wall... although I did just tape it to my picture frame. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="467" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFiJi0z9-vpoihJToZbWPSDFlG3BZkw6DQERoDIHP0di4ZsP772rVlt7MLJtW0Pr05GA9ZzoCT1T49VSmTGkRp-ROXL_1AFe3GxB75YCN4se7pGodMz5qzQ20w647ZvQlqOvEltGXekSRN/s640/diy+Christmas+advent+chain+materials+list.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<b>Make your advent chain</b> (many of us already know this tradition, but for those who don't: cut paper strips, write down the number of days until Christmas - one number per paper strip - then staple them in loops in order, and tear off each loop as you pass each day).<br />
<br />
Now you need a place to hang it!<br />
<br />
<b>Get your picture frame</b> and decide <b>what size of the printable you want</b> on the wall. My frame was square, and much bigger than an 8x10 - but my printer doesn't print any bigger than 8.5 x 11. So I chose a small square.<br />
<br />
But my large picture frame needed a matte...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz19bEpezz2SlPvi6Q1Ar1JbwQ38Ex22AE_TOR-avDGDlhlNtz5utT5Qsv5-9UpWcevWZfzXZ172uJP_kS2wdUOICisatYLkjL83Qn9XlFfhFGH8zqzTMKYjsFy6vNiJeP2_9foXXZfkEb/s1600/DIY+Christmas+advent+chain+instead+of+wreath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz19bEpezz2SlPvi6Q1Ar1JbwQ38Ex22AE_TOR-avDGDlhlNtz5utT5Qsv5-9UpWcevWZfzXZ172uJP_kS2wdUOICisatYLkjL83Qn9XlFfhFGH8zqzTMKYjsFy6vNiJeP2_9foXXZfkEb/s640/DIY+Christmas+advent+chain+instead+of+wreath.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
... so I framed my lime green Christmas wrapping paper! Then I added a blue border of cardstock and used my printable for the centerpiece of the picture. <br />
<br />
However you choose to doll it up, <b>frame your printable</b>.<br />
<br />
<b>Next, hang it up!</b> If you have wall space, great. If not, do as I did - find an empty door and grab your wreath hanger. Use a sturdy ribbon to hang the frame from the wreath hanger.<br />
<br />
And last, <b>tape the advent chain to the picture frame</b>. The kids love it. I love it. Actually, my husband thought it looked fantastic too. And I can reuse it again and again. Yay!<br />
<br />
In the spirit of giving, here is your free printable!<br />
<ul>

</ul>
And if you ask my daughter how long until Christmas, she'll tell you. Thanks to the advent chain. :)<br />
<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T1A2hd9vlIg/Uqz23t62ewI/AAAAAAAAMBA/cptZaMTptjc/s1600/20131214_161328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T1A2hd9vlIg/Uqz23t62ewI/AAAAAAAAMBA/cptZaMTptjc/s320/20131214_161328.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
For Teacher gifts this year, I made little gift bags out of wired ribbon, then stuffed them with pocket size anitbacterial hand sanitizer, Ghiradelli chocolate, and kisses and mint bells.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IqsBOcGXDQE/UqzzaqkT38I/AAAAAAAAMAU/7wd_K8hdr1c/s1600/20131214_153811.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IqsBOcGXDQE/UqzzaqkT38I/AAAAAAAAMAU/7wd_K8hdr1c/s320/20131214_153811.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is what I used: Hershey's peppermint bark bells and kisses, Ghiradelli chocolates, Bath & Body Works pocket bacs, gold wired ribbon, at least 2 inches wide, and tulle on a spool.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's how to make it: Cut 28" of wired ribbon. Fold in half. <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kAtR_ZCM6tg/Uqzzasf3fbI/AAAAAAAAMAU/_plV29sjHRQ/s1600/20131214_153047.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kAtR_ZCM6tg/Uqzzasf3fbI/AAAAAAAAMAU/_plV29sjHRQ/s320/20131214_153047.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
From fold, sew a straight basting stitch to the end. Repeat on the other side, making sure to start from the fold, so the bag won't have a pucker toward the bottom/fold. Trim strings.<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xfsi6o-U7_o/UqzzatxTAeI/AAAAAAAAMAU/UJW9Ug0dqUQ/s1600/20131214_153150.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xfsi6o-U7_o/UqzzatxTAeI/AAAAAAAAMAU/UJW9Ug0dqUQ/s320/20131214_153150.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There's the bag. I slipped the pocketbac in the bottom, and two Ghiradelli chocolate squares. They fit exactly. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWqYMBFsSoYL1yPZYABZjhmTYfFO9yHwHdMm8ffjAph8vq-xx7mEnYqHlI4tmwEeo7NoMpqSDyEKm0gi1g-BL4ztRdBF8ZA1dh4LpR5b4i0NLjpYEODmjZlHF_l9A0VoYWSsbdJCJfZDhg/s1600/20131214_152123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWqYMBFsSoYL1yPZYABZjhmTYfFO9yHwHdMm8ffjAph8vq-xx7mEnYqHlI4tmwEeo7NoMpqSDyEKm0gi1g-BL4ztRdBF8ZA1dh4LpR5b4i0NLjpYEODmjZlHF_l9A0VoYWSsbdJCJfZDhg/s320/20131214_152123.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then topped with kisses and bells and tied of with about 12 inches of tulle ribbon. <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kd1epTGHt3A/UqzzajrGKpI/AAAAAAAAMAU/W9vFmIGtNL0/s1600/20131214_152408.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kd1epTGHt3A/UqzzajrGKpI/AAAAAAAAMAU/W9vFmIGtNL0/s320/20131214_152408.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here they are. Easy and cheap and flexible. Fill with whatever you want.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VdL_V-70pxY/Uqz2EMAq0sI/AAAAAAAAMA4/f_yMm14cT_E/s1600/20131214_161328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VdL_V-70pxY/Uqz2EMAq0sI/AAAAAAAAMA4/f_yMm14cT_E/s320/20131214_161328.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>

Inevitably, it's less than a week away from Thanksgiving before I wonder
when to set my bird out on the counter... oh but wait! That's bad. <i><b>Never
</b></i>set poultry out on the counter to thaw...<br />
<br />
So I need it to thaw <i>fast</i>! <br />
<br />
Once I find the answer, I have to do a separate search to find out how long it will take. That's always different because my turkey is always a different size. One year, it was small 8 lb bird. Another year we bout a 20 lb (ish) bird to share with other families and stash in the freezer for sandwiches. This year, we bought a home grown turkey and dressed him ourselves to put in the freezer. Homegrown turkeys can get clear up to 40 lbs or more! That's one BIG bird.<br />
<br />
Then they make me do math. "Multiply your turkey's weight by this number or that number, blah, blah, blah...." I hate math.<br />
<br />
So I made a handy little chart for myself. It combines the recommendations which seemingly all experts agree on from the US government to recipe gurus and frozen turkey suppliers. And it gives basic instructions at a glance - which makes this visual learner very happy. :)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>So if YOU want to know how long it takes to thaw a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>search no more! Just use the chart below.</b></div>
<br />
The top 2 methods are for my memory's sake. I use the "Combined Method" listed at the bottom.<br />
<br />
<b>Here's a brief example:</b> my turkey this year is 26 lbs. I got it in the fridge 3 days ago, but I want to brine it tomorrow, so it needs to be thawed today.<br />
<ol>
<li>Find 26 lbs on the last chart with your finger.</li>
<li>Move across to "3 days" in the fridge and...</li>
<li>Tada! I need to spend 5.5 hours thawing my turkey using the sink method. That means, every 30 minutes for 5 and a half hours, I'm refilling my sink (with my turkey in it) with cold water. </li>
</ol>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUNwOJBMDS6v0iOLbhop2fi7RaiyJNQoJT8zrRGOz2_0XDQ0RSKTgKfAxGlC3bm6pdCVWKbEvCGsVvPtd7cQyzKYb1W5j6hN_4F0qKYro46873Gj8pYWvB2wU9Ntx7C7yg5At48ngRqSdV/s1600/how-to-thaw-a-turkey-fast-easy-and-safely.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUNwOJBMDS6v0iOLbhop2fi7RaiyJNQoJT8zrRGOz2_0XDQ0RSKTgKfAxGlC3bm6pdCVWKbEvCGsVvPtd7cQyzKYb1W5j6hN_4F0qKYro46873Gj8pYWvB2wU9Ntx7C7yg5At48ngRqSdV/s1600/how-to-thaw-a-turkey-fast-easy-and-safely.jpg" /></a></div>

<span style="font-size: small;">When you need a wall and can not have one put in, you get a little creative. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: small;">So, I have this room that had a wall with a fireplace in the center. It created a round-a-bout. We could walk circles all day long. But I had a problem. I needed two separate rooms. I especially needed a wall. We are renting this house, so doing demolition and an add on was not in the cards.... and is generally pricy. I wanted something light weight, but substantial. Then it hit me. I could the use the concept of pipe and drape. PVC pipe and cheep tab curtains I already had. </span></div>

This project is not time consuming and is very inexpensive. Power tools are optional (but I like to use mine any chance I get!). Now I can work on my projects without the rest of the house seeing all of my glorious mess.<br />

3 different projects are in this picture. The wreath on the door, the aspen or birch branches, the tiny ghosts hanging from the top.<br />
<br />
This post only covers the wreath. I will post on the trees and ghosts soon, though you could probably figure it out without any of my help.<br />
<br />

Parts: (All from a craft store):<br />
Glitter Raven,<br />
"Keep Calm and Carry Garlic" sign,<br />
Yellow and black silk "feathers" (in the silk flower section, I think they were meant to be leaves...),<br />
Green floral wire<br />
Wire cutters<br />
Hot glue gun<br />
Hot glue sticks<br />
Burlap ribbon<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1BMzJSYd1RM/UnvF9t8U_pI/AAAAAAAALqs/x5YlPWWnejU/s1600/20131001_222516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1BMzJSYd1RM/UnvF9t8U_pI/AAAAAAAALqs/x5YlPWWnejU/s320/20131001_222516.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I had 4 branches of feathers and I laid them cross-wise.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nuMPEd5MSUA/UnvF9hfU9nI/AAAAAAAALqs/XqVEHejuDnY/s1600/20131001_222540.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nuMPEd5MSUA/UnvF9hfU9nI/AAAAAAAALqs/XqVEHejuDnY/s320/20131001_222540.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
My pictures are horrible, I'm not a photographer. But the pics help, right?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEineh5_iogSrDD-LqubyBTqZ3TTV1667qdgifkhrYJNXfkabqaBB7hyphenhyphenyrMlPqfAnWYve_mtaFYreKRnZNA_orOaltXwb_rUHXCa5pTDnbCjAo5p6EQYuNHq6z2tykT1LCiXJ8X2_hJbrgA3/s1600/20131001_222704.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEineh5_iogSrDD-LqubyBTqZ3TTV1667qdgifkhrYJNXfkabqaBB7hyphenhyphenyrMlPqfAnWYve_mtaFYreKRnZNA_orOaltXwb_rUHXCa5pTDnbCjAo5p6EQYuNHq6z2tykT1LCiXJ8X2_hJbrgA3/s320/20131001_222704.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Turn the sign upside down and hot glue the branches to the center of the sign, fanning out the feathers to frame the sign. I used TONS of hot glue because my branches were pretty thick.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YWzQER0BYYU/UnvF9g9b26I/AAAAAAAALqs/TUHZkw9PVM4/s1600/20131001_231638.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YWzQER0BYYU/UnvF9g9b26I/AAAAAAAALqs/TUHZkw9PVM4/s320/20131001_231638.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The back of the sign had hangers, so I wired the raven's legs to one of the hangers. I also strung the green floral wire from one corner to the other, just like a picture frame, leaving some bend in the wire so it would hang over the wreath hook. Then I hot glued the burlap bow to the wreath and hung the wreath up!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Forgive the quality of the picture, but it's worth a thousand words. <br />
<br />
To ripen green tomatoes at the end of the season, cut off the stems holding the green tomatoes, and hang them on a string in a warm place. They will ripen on their own over a few weeks.<br />
<br />
My very good mother did this in my storage room. She used a clothes line tacked into the wall studs. Then she draped the vines over the line, no clothes pins or clips or anything.<br />
<br />
2 weeks later, ripe tomatoes were waiting for us! And I didn't have to lose the fruit to cold weather!<br />
<br />
All the best!<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's another simple dresser refinishing project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie4I9XcBu3Nwq2yXw95W-A5icmJPqTIhpGarv8eOrnijNrf2Ibe2CHAU7cPofeH3-RUiBZTRFqVU4C62AZhbFh8QDFeS1b7EFhJYlm9TpuC67PtQuLsIIXG9_yxK9meoj_xzxwmS7eNgHx/s1600/painted+dresser+refurbished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie4I9XcBu3Nwq2yXw95W-A5icmJPqTIhpGarv8eOrnijNrf2Ibe2CHAU7cPofeH3-RUiBZTRFqVU4C62AZhbFh8QDFeS1b7EFhJYlm9TpuC67PtQuLsIIXG9_yxK9meoj_xzxwmS7eNgHx/s400/painted+dresser+refurbished.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My husband's bachelor dresser needed a makeover in a serious way. It was brown. It was ugly. It was water damaged.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8g53v08Go1wT3py0Y8wH00pVcDBLYeuNC1Uo4Vja15BGPNN9mWx0Cv2tgj_qIehXHXVP1gQd25tDT-sShf7bjgMshnC20Ey1qdNm7FwQ-aD9-fq82vDQa6YAvpzMGHXLwP_vsc7YgJQJx/s320/IMAG2473.jpg" width="213" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You see? Ugly.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgstBiIZAh-1kyZmkzk8WaaI82wbqiIEGboDkE53I1H3ejNumb8hD6zv1UWSezOzxLBOfJOOYzIL-n-Gbw9-ob2R76OoiRWX-69a7Zhgo2fd-8M1ru1TrPjOX5iM84LksYW5oSifTqUF6Os/s1600/IMAG2474.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgstBiIZAh-1kyZmkzk8WaaI82wbqiIEGboDkE53I1H3ejNumb8hD6zv1UWSezOzxLBOfJOOYzIL-n-Gbw9-ob2R76OoiRWX-69a7Zhgo2fd-8M1ru1TrPjOX5iM84LksYW5oSifTqUF6Os/s320/IMAG2474.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Time to refurbish that dresser! Elephant Gray was the paint color choice, with accents of Brilliant White. With a little <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/280912095480927339/" target="_blank">PINspiration </a>(which my husband really liked), I chose to add a white pinstripe around the drawers and top. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This was seriously SO easy! Paint it your solid color (gray). Once it dries, tape off some squares and paint them white. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3tVOADY7tx0h4QrI4reL5tfWsl6Qi50lTKyI_4MeNsoN6I_1bOVAJW0Tc_1BZzqaTVWUZoPE3wRBbYMhRnzXJxG8ln92gMMFnU-vynpjpzpNKxDUZV9Nrz5hNgrNxX-kjO04HW5vQXpZ8/s1600/IMAG2481.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3tVOADY7tx0h4QrI4reL5tfWsl6Qi50lTKyI_4MeNsoN6I_1bOVAJW0Tc_1BZzqaTVWUZoPE3wRBbYMhRnzXJxG8ln92gMMFnU-vynpjpzpNKxDUZV9Nrz5hNgrNxX-kjO04HW5vQXpZ8/s320/IMAG2481.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And there's the finished beauty. I love it. I love, love, love it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
Here's a fun, easy craft idea you can do with your kids for Valentine's day... Make a bouquet of freshly cut hearts! Simply cut hearts out of differently colored and patterned papers, then make 2 slices in the centers. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJt7qBslCxjxx-9JO5ehDX1iYvPTbMJ0Aq8XBkhZVv7hPio1bKFY9elPGqOVeKIKaaK31odZnbfLA-gVwke3keQGhC1fN25KewjmKulg0aruWhy32q_Adt-JURnBTspPTEIO8rdrXV_FvF/s1600/IMAG1067.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJt7qBslCxjxx-9JO5ehDX1iYvPTbMJ0Aq8XBkhZVv7hPio1bKFY9elPGqOVeKIKaaK31odZnbfLA-gVwke3keQGhC1fN25KewjmKulg0aruWhy32q_Adt-JURnBTspPTEIO8rdrXV_FvF/s320/IMAG1067.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Slide the hearts onto a skewering stick. Repeat until you have enough hearts and sticks to make a full bouquet. You can also tape together some of the skewers to make some hearts taller than others. We made several of each. You could also use popsicle sticks, or make a miniature bouquet with toothpicks. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ7n0y5tAYGLrApoN4IDp1s52P4P00Ou_SbSuyhjxLuBqSkk2FtpE0I-WrgTxIBavmw9D09N3f1in7CwsbixKiEeZQUIHmEea1Gk0bYSQiz85BDcFJPl3CO39eC2ADS1Fjp0uvy6L0NWcV/s1600/IMAG1068.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ7n0y5tAYGLrApoN4IDp1s52P4P00Ou_SbSuyhjxLuBqSkk2FtpE0I-WrgTxIBavmw9D09N3f1in7CwsbixKiEeZQUIHmEea1Gk0bYSQiz85BDcFJPl3CO39eC2ADS1Fjp0uvy6L0NWcV/s320/IMAG1068.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Place them in a vase (if you stab the skewers into styrofoam and put it at the bottom of the vase, the hearts stay put, but it isn't necessary) and put them out on display! Add a little note from little hands, and you're done. :) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii8aPV5IXm7mV1PWkqRrKjEz_AHk8f6QCgnrUhX4Rx16asLJkpANbcbFlDsLDvOqFinQ6320R3iTLhyR7JWO2Azfe6ivPjD5LkM3TwYXXxZ2VQ27IpSN_ekLj2Ru29cCakIFINSoyXF5o2/s1600/IMAG1064+-+Copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii8aPV5IXm7mV1PWkqRrKjEz_AHk8f6QCgnrUhX4Rx16asLJkpANbcbFlDsLDvOqFinQ6320R3iTLhyR7JWO2Azfe6ivPjD5LkM3TwYXXxZ2VQ27IpSN_ekLj2Ru29cCakIFINSoyXF5o2/s320/IMAG1064+-+Copy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
They could be used for your child's class valentine party, a teacher's gift - or in our case, a fun surprise for Daddy or Grandma. These are also a great little idea for simple home decorating. <br />
<br />

Yes I have to use the laundry booster to get the clean smell. <br />
<br />
So, I mix the two!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi22dsaNV5gmLuixNAeUXOGxD8oHRexhQYGzIKW5Qw4o5bD-waWcr2duenznwKxxfNkVXFzWih-lhMLGe6g43UX7opGuCJ-KM0vWIkhc471omlLs4o6_M_04FjSoy1AbiyxzX7D7Iu-Ebw_/s1600/IMG_5738.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi22dsaNV5gmLuixNAeUXOGxD8oHRexhQYGzIKW5Qw4o5bD-waWcr2duenznwKxxfNkVXFzWih-lhMLGe6g43UX7opGuCJ-KM0vWIkhc471omlLs4o6_M_04FjSoy1AbiyxzX7D7Iu-Ebw_/s320/IMG_5738.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjrvomvRemNBWawjnuD8g52WztwTgxWt1MyZiJd0-UifK5trv0k4xQUZyvq4Xg1eBBtsQtLT0SJ1ZErQWV7MQahnouVFGUfz0rIYgijg0TcHlagLAIuZ3vJ_jXjmEO3x34JsPUa2QOU9rG/s1600/IMG_5740.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjrvomvRemNBWawjnuD8g52WztwTgxWt1MyZiJd0-UifK5trv0k4xQUZyvq4Xg1eBBtsQtLT0SJ1ZErQWV7MQahnouVFGUfz0rIYgijg0TcHlagLAIuZ3vJ_jXjmEO3x34JsPUa2QOU9rG/s320/IMG_5740.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyMwPStuAO4iOHqT20nFqNmK31knF7B0hfxloPCEHb_p_GF7_EayVD8zVMnDQ7E2cMCal4a8r8Z9aB2RXRSgXoqiktMDQ9WLA2N9D05oiIVgFH6RNwbttRZXAEIBiNgn7x_3vtK2FxHxK5/s1600/IMG_5744.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyMwPStuAO4iOHqT20nFqNmK31knF7B0hfxloPCEHb_p_GF7_EayVD8zVMnDQ7E2cMCal4a8r8Z9aB2RXRSgXoqiktMDQ9WLA2N9D05oiIVgFH6RNwbttRZXAEIBiNgn7x_3vtK2FxHxK5/s320/IMG_5744.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It is a two to one ratio. Two parts soap, one part laundry booster.<br />
<br />
In the end, I only have to scoop from one bucket and I get just the right amound of everything.<br />
<br />
Happy nose.... <a href="http://whimsyfunk.blogspot.com/2012/11/laundry-soap-mix-it-up.html" target="_blank">the laundry smells springtime fresh</a>. I have made my own laundry soap in the past. Stay tuned for a post on that one.<br />

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">I have been so inspired by the fun little accessory that has become very popular. The Peter Pan Collar necklace. Looking at all of the styles that are out there, finding exactly what I wanted escaped me. Well, this caused the little voice in my head to say...you can do that!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">That is exactly what happened. I drew up a pattern, used some scrap leather and some jewelry embellishments. Viola. New statement piece. Love how lightweight it turned out and the simplicity of it. </span></span><br />

This belt came too long for me. So I decided to try my luck at shortening it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After all, how hard could it be? The buckle part is made of vinyl, not leather.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL0Cr5V5p7NTDOoOi7p3wxImaJfgF69Kh-sykZShsa0fOW2uoDyLY2VV44yS1yd6d3hsV0LbeAqpvVjWHq52eTbzQhllnY6uG9nzDeovUUnNagc_KXth4vYhqQ2jmu3SPdamwWkrfwo2g/s1600/belt1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL0Cr5V5p7NTDOoOi7p3wxImaJfgF69Kh-sykZShsa0fOW2uoDyLY2VV44yS1yd6d3hsV0LbeAqpvVjWHq52eTbzQhllnY6uG9nzDeovUUnNagc_KXth4vYhqQ2jmu3SPdamwWkrfwo2g/s320/belt1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So this is how I did it... First I carefully picked out the stitching holding the </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
buckle to the belting (which by the way is stretchy elastic). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcdf-Knny4QO9oGIGw6Gv0i9GmElK9O0zSBG1dFw6rk1w-4aHpefWOuEmAXihLFLDTE25b-1tEcPGqIKtfa1xfyOPdtiRcJuZOItU11Y3SnMuMuh9cL-tH2CheKEiaAVx7lXbQUcHpX6M/s1600/+belt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcdf-Knny4QO9oGIGw6Gv0i9GmElK9O0zSBG1dFw6rk1w-4aHpefWOuEmAXihLFLDTE25b-1tEcPGqIKtfa1xfyOPdtiRcJuZOItU11Y3SnMuMuh9cL-tH2CheKEiaAVx7lXbQUcHpX6M/s320/+belt.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One thing that might make that easier is once you get it started, try to pick it out </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
between the vinyl and the belting instead of on the outside. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivFZA1TQ-0MM-DFjQ8C64DK6lnS06SKlfbKkA9ytU6XnTKlby2KF5sC6BfCfwWljnHqUZon4GKt_sVesad-Mlg-Ou2XBBq9l_11O9S1UUKHZ7OaB-YClL-3SRy_AzVcBe0DsidClaRXAE/s1600/belt2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivFZA1TQ-0MM-DFjQ8C64DK6lnS06SKlfbKkA9ytU6XnTKlby2KF5sC6BfCfwWljnHqUZon4GKt_sVesad-Mlg-Ou2XBBq9l_11O9S1UUKHZ7OaB-YClL-3SRy_AzVcBe0DsidClaRXAE/s320/belt2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So this is what mine looked like once I had taken it apart.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj7pWUH1L8Ond7gIp6QEj-4llmLw-5ctO52I0Gydjxe7kURY5QaFCbxD8V2fjVmXu_M4DP4q27XSvrthesuORy1T-1IJhewFVUf6Hk2CHWgALdJsTYm1n4XgjTupZJXpLTy1hTbWup2cA/s1600/belt3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj7pWUH1L8Ond7gIp6QEj-4llmLw-5ctO52I0Gydjxe7kURY5QaFCbxD8V2fjVmXu_M4DP4q27XSvrthesuORy1T-1IJhewFVUf6Hk2CHWgALdJsTYm1n4XgjTupZJXpLTy1hTbWup2cA/s320/belt3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then measure carefully and cut off the belting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEippNHJOqEc7ehyphenhyphenVvtcsPX3Iq_hY2ayDiaSGeL01f7npvaxObAX1k3qczYPFxmYLnG81dV5bLuBPSKSktfOaAERJWpx_eWawOIs-xATM1gSuVui-zZy7fH4zEFi2080UR2ohvH2TFi_RAg/s1600/belt4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEippNHJOqEc7ehyphenhyphenVvtcsPX3Iq_hY2ayDiaSGeL01f7npvaxObAX1k3qczYPFxmYLnG81dV5bLuBPSKSktfOaAERJWpx_eWawOIs-xATM1gSuVui-zZy7fH4zEFi2080UR2ohvH2TFi_RAg/s320/belt4.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Stuff the belting back into the buckle end.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy49nALtVLY8FGrtXQZqm0GoSz9bwPDCUgarmPYZIFBD9aPPlftW23B9-opPlkD5sIh_BJCPeBbfiuhdnXeA8aOClvsdkvwo9wBVqpfVVAkl96oH4FZSU3hphrAfwsvNxkFxbMqovNHWM/s1600/belt5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy49nALtVLY8FGrtXQZqm0GoSz9bwPDCUgarmPYZIFBD9aPPlftW23B9-opPlkD5sIh_BJCPeBbfiuhdnXeA8aOClvsdkvwo9wBVqpfVVAkl96oH4FZSU3hphrAfwsvNxkFxbMqovNHWM/s320/belt5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make sure the edges are neatly tucked in...nothing hanging outside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUu0X304vkuqPY3k71I2UBNZEJY8kJAkqGKtxO2TThTebsV2OVZV_hHBmRDi7bCVr9WFpSdeXP_5qyJtYNuRsS4fkHBDQlNmO3a0TkG1chPVlkGlJHrBiuSrqKL_4vwWrTw3N70wFqDD8/s1600/belt6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUu0X304vkuqPY3k71I2UBNZEJY8kJAkqGKtxO2TThTebsV2OVZV_hHBmRDi7bCVr9WFpSdeXP_5qyJtYNuRsS4fkHBDQlNmO3a0TkG1chPVlkGlJHrBiuSrqKL_4vwWrTw3N70wFqDD8/s320/belt6.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Topstitch, following the exact seam line that you picked out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHcMFu1pCn4fSw_LKZm57kP7FfRwI6uzDJVSTKn36r5X84wpMPDokjP5QR3_JCfdIC1ZnmDRUlqOqzEK9ALeITj3ib53srR9JI5bkSFVSK2Im6Wp4Hx1mI-EsNxHzZAzHowyuMVdyoGP8/s1600/belt7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHcMFu1pCn4fSw_LKZm57kP7FfRwI6uzDJVSTKn36r5X84wpMPDokjP5QR3_JCfdIC1ZnmDRUlqOqzEK9ALeITj3ib53srR9JI5bkSFVSK2Im6Wp4Hx1mI-EsNxHzZAzHowyuMVdyoGP8/s320/belt7.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And there you have it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTUIsCQfZdwEIgM8wUitcpMHO6d4Pk2JX-4PjZsJXIoZ5bg3VgOvZKfpL5VxZ1ZJHIOlNh7nS1V85FYk68AFLSq-vCbqEcVplFq2R01v7xWEVk56s9qejuFhBM4FCq05hrAD8lRxwq0vc/s1600/belt8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTUIsCQfZdwEIgM8wUitcpMHO6d4Pk2JX-4PjZsJXIoZ5bg3VgOvZKfpL5VxZ1ZJHIOlNh7nS1V85FYk68AFLSq-vCbqEcVplFq2R01v7xWEVk56s9qejuFhBM4FCq05hrAD8lRxwq0vc/s320/belt8.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

Want a beautiful, thrifty and easy card making idea? Here are a few simple techniques you can use to turn foil cards with a matte background into fabulous works of art. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These cards are so easy to make and they don't take long either!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY7NEhc7sWkuvddrhOVDEOcg4Fpl9dwL5WQcFlH9IYoTBUNSHf3sVzA0_ZKiqUrzUfSh6LhK3YO47c6XrQ7CC1ivWFF9No4f74PbfkgGP2u-DkjlkVVE9nlvkXP6l9kK0ktWR_557E5JsQ/s1600/card+making+-+boring+foil+cards+into+fabulous+foil+cards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY7NEhc7sWkuvddrhOVDEOcg4Fpl9dwL5WQcFlH9IYoTBUNSHf3sVzA0_ZKiqUrzUfSh6LhK3YO47c6XrQ7CC1ivWFF9No4f74PbfkgGP2u-DkjlkVVE9nlvkXP6l9kK0ktWR_557E5JsQ/s400/card+making+-+boring+foil+cards+into+fabulous+foil+cards.jpg" width="307" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found these simple beauties for $1 with 20 cards in it - a dollar! My sisters were throwing me a baby shower so couldn't pass them up. They even had the little feet!! Ah, but I digress. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had the perfect plan for them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNVFRv1_8fFfMo3aUBRfHO9pORDLYR2PvpwUClVg5Tj5xVN45LLzWvA7EBJ6j5BGeaHvR7DlYYQWDSXYRepT8rBnC4Gu05WLEJgIf1NyaxMdNbAb39jaQHah_M6mvLujeh54AMkWyho_dC/s1600/card+making+-+boring+foil+cards+with+potential.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNVFRv1_8fFfMo3aUBRfHO9pORDLYR2PvpwUClVg5Tj5xVN45LLzWvA7EBJ6j5BGeaHvR7DlYYQWDSXYRepT8rBnC4Gu05WLEJgIf1NyaxMdNbAb39jaQHah_M6mvLujeh54AMkWyho_dC/s320/card+making+-+boring+foil+cards+with+potential.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Step 1:</b> I started by "grunging" the edges, giving them a modern, worn look. All you need is to scrape your card against your ink pad for this technique. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For a swiped look, drag the edges of your card across the ink pad. For the spotted/denim/vintage type look, simply press your card into the ink pad without swiping it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhqisUTGOvzejWxlcr3xJZpYSuUrpD95tDsIZy2aAt93L0-wYGxt9L9iEiOx6SLx2SAV1jRFq4e4W6dUhc8Raf6yU6O8asIQDBKTI7BsmTU4sTLt0CdyhkPJNw2MQq04eXkJmJkWxNkAU3/s1600/card+making+-+grunging+the+edges.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhqisUTGOvzejWxlcr3xJZpYSuUrpD95tDsIZy2aAt93L0-wYGxt9L9iEiOx6SLx2SAV1jRFq4e4W6dUhc8Raf6yU6O8asIQDBKTI7BsmTU4sTLt0CdyhkPJNw2MQq04eXkJmJkWxNkAU3/s320/card+making+-+grunging+the+edges.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I like to use 2 different colors to give it depth. Although a monochromatic color scheme can look fabulous too! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>(Tip: always start with your lightest colored ink)</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjajQtYyyqviWPoP2543AAtG1o5YEYMMx2MMzDzbuxqBKHgNlbiPGzFk1BgRw9t4BE-C-kDBqhY3LTBLRmRbhgcq4gYac9kTU6ZHrdpJmuoFmlugcGUXkfECxK5-NIDrxM1YphN3zvk0sYx/s1600/card+making+-+two+tone+grunging.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjajQtYyyqviWPoP2543AAtG1o5YEYMMx2MMzDzbuxqBKHgNlbiPGzFk1BgRw9t4BE-C-kDBqhY3LTBLRmRbhgcq4gYac9kTU6ZHrdpJmuoFmlugcGUXkfECxK5-NIDrxM1YphN3zvk0sYx/s320/card+making+-+two+tone+grunging.JPG" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Step 2: </b>You can see that the words don't quite pop. So I grabbed my sponge, patted it in the ink, and pressed using a swirling motion just around the words. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRmSEz2d9Iddlr33KrI2NfdswIBE1RLKPCa82R2HOY-nhT5rMGZKKlTtj_gCo1Gy4P9UO3yToIWGEiVOg10x2Rza_fEwSc3ffBX_in65Nq5rTjAQC-eSi-jPZnUz4354lZ_5ISh2i9JMtK/s1600/card+making+-+sponge+over+center+foil.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRmSEz2d9Iddlr33KrI2NfdswIBE1RLKPCa82R2HOY-nhT5rMGZKKlTtj_gCo1Gy4P9UO3yToIWGEiVOg10x2Rza_fEwSc3ffBX_in65Nq5rTjAQC-eSi-jPZnUz4354lZ_5ISh2i9JMtK/s320/card+making+-+sponge+over+center+foil.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Step 3:</b> Cool as that was, I wasn't done. I wanted to have more of a watercolor look to it. So I lightly sprayed the sponge (that still had ink in it by the way)...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ8SMCCTQRCsjrOUIZjRaUndBf5Z9d8eD_X3Je3zXMfpYF39S73DqBe3bNPkXfiNibp__VLrMMg9hbdderin5e4g4NZuLDEw0gVfztkIpy0_xOcso2pr3AvXevE4owSN7qPpiVbhUeetB_/s1600/card+making+-+sponge+and+spray+bottle.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ8SMCCTQRCsjrOUIZjRaUndBf5Z9d8eD_X3Je3zXMfpYF39S73DqBe3bNPkXfiNibp__VLrMMg9hbdderin5e4g4NZuLDEw0gVfztkIpy0_xOcso2pr3AvXevE4owSN7qPpiVbhUeetB_/s320/card+making+-+sponge+and+spray+bottle.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
...and made short swiping strokes across the center foil words. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Continue to swipe across the rest of the card until the color runs out. Repeat as often as you like - but remember, not too much water or your card will warp!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV7fa23WPvg60XZSL3CAHdYbJOgw83Hbs9RzgJ0XIQ5i6yc4PfG8osBgxC2dVxFexTR1YdjaUkoY16YRI0GPnBnNK1DOg8gn-d64Rqkrba_XeI17skW9tx-XG3QxgeKdBZ2tzjamalViVk/s1600/card+making+-+giving+it+a+paint+brush+feel.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV7fa23WPvg60XZSL3CAHdYbJOgw83Hbs9RzgJ0XIQ5i6yc4PfG8osBgxC2dVxFexTR1YdjaUkoY16YRI0GPnBnNK1DOg8gn-d64Rqkrba_XeI17skW9tx-XG3QxgeKdBZ2tzjamalViVk/s320/card+making+-+giving+it+a+paint+brush+feel.JPG" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And this is what you get - unique, artistic cards that only took a minute to make! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8bG8Y7E9AQ5f_O8dJbkKLbxQQCQXlguPqaSVKvVoDPw3lEhqg_ppiMuRssDK0QSLfGisPh-gm_C4uQNQGH6B4dY6bIfDWNJkRN0NXk9rQLnUSoOenJrguydtlHf_dZUtCwr3Xix4ECGIU/s1600/card+making+-+finished+cards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8bG8Y7E9AQ5f_O8dJbkKLbxQQCQXlguPqaSVKvVoDPw3lEhqg_ppiMuRssDK0QSLfGisPh-gm_C4uQNQGH6B4dY6bIfDWNJkRN0NXk9rQLnUSoOenJrguydtlHf_dZUtCwr3Xix4ECGIU/s320/card+making+-+finished+cards.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And of course, I couldn't leave it alone! After making a few of one color, I had to make a few in another color! After all, there were 20 in the box.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you try out this little card making idea, come back and tell us about it. We'd love to see what you did!</div>

Remember to play with it. Have fun! That's part of the joy of making cards. :)</div>

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I have a bunch from years of making the cheep little souvenirs. Now, I was left with a big bunch of penny's that had been stretched. I took those little mementos and made a bracelet. I really like the way it turned out!</span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
I'm expecting... and when you're expecting there's 2 things you desperately want your clothes to be - <i>comfortable</i> and <i>cute</i>. But that's hard to come by... especially together!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I went hunting at the thrift store the other day and found
this gem – a long-sleeved maternity dress that was literally just a giant
t-shirt. Talk about comfortable! But not so cute.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Well, it’s summertime and I had a plan… time for a dress makeover!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
You could do this with any t-shirt or skirt too.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<b><span style="font-size: large;">Step 1: Cut off
those long sleeves.</span></b><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"> </b></div>

She even has her own cooking show, where she says "And then..." over and over while mixing her "ingredients" in her hat, bucket, bowl, purse, etc. I decided she needed to have a real kitchen to work in--well--a real pretend kitchen to work in. Here's what I used to make her a small kitchenette: a medium sized cardboard box, a paper towel tube, metal or plastic bowl (has to have some sort of lip on the edge), pen, cerated knife, tape, paint, felt, Elmer's Glue, string, yarn and a few odds and ends for "hardware."<br />
<br />
Before you get started, make sure the box you have chosen to use is a good height for your little one. And make sure it will hold up to mini Iron Chef-ing. It would be very sad if the kitchenette fell apart after just a few months.<br />
<br />
Step one: tape your box completely closed on all sides. Make it secure. Then measure where you want your sink, faucet, stove top, oven door, and cupboard doors to be stationed. Mark all areas with your pen.<br />
<br />
Step two: Use your knife to cut open the oven door, cupboard doors, sink area and faucet area. When cutting the oven and cupboard doors open, be sure to only cut 3 edges, and score the remaining edge so that it will open smoothly. Also, to cut the sink space, place your bowl open side down on the box. Trace it, and then cut it a bit smaller than the lip on the bowl. Cut the hole for the faucet exactly the same size as the paper towel tube. Err on the smaller side, not the bigger.<br />
<br />
Step 3: Create the faucet out of the paper towel tube. Mine is not a super clean job, but it works. I cut two wedges out of my paper towel role so that it would curve over the sink. I angled the paper towel tube and taped it back together. The end of the paper towel tube that is going to be inserted in the cardboard box needs to be clipped about 1/4 of an inch in, perpendicular to the open edge. Insert the clipped edge into the faucet hole. Under the "counter top," bend out the edges of the paper towel role to secure the faucet in place. Glue and let dry. Then tape like crazy to reinforce it.<br />
<br />
Step 4: Install Sink. Literally plug the bowl in and move on.<br />
<br />
Step 5: Get creative and paint away. I removed my bowl so I didn't accidentally get paint on it.<br />
<br />
Step 6: Gather your odds and ends and paint them (if you need to) to turn them into cupboard handles, oven handles, towel racks, hot/cold faucet knobs, element knobs, oven temperature knob, etc. <br />
<br />
Step 7: Now, what to do about those elements. There are so many ways you could make cool stove-top elements. Mine are not that complex. 4 circles of felt glued with Elmer's Glue to the "stove top." I also decided to reinforce the felt elements with large stitches of fun colored yarn sewn through small holes I made in a spiral pattern in the cardboard top. This is really helpful to prevent kids ripping the elements off of the stove.<br />
<br />
Step 8: Install your hardware any way you like. I used hemp-like string and looped it through small holes I made in the cardboard cupboard and oven doors. I used a pretty small phillips head screwdriver to push through the cardboard. It worked really well.<br />
<br />
Step 9: Add a little costume apron and giggle as you watch your little chef host her own cooking show: "And then, stir for two minutes....And then taste it....And then...."Charityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13575946809278831662noreply@blogger.com2
